Join us for an interactive discussion with the authors of two important recent books: 

Rosemary Foot, China, the UN, and Human Protection: Beliefs, Power, Image (OUP, 2020); and

Courtney Fung, China and Intervention at the UN Security Council: Reconciling Status (OUP, 2019).

 

Rosemary Foot is Emeritus Fellow of St. Antony’s College, and Senior Research Fellow at the University of Oxford’s Department of Politics and International Relations. Previously, she was Professor of International Relations and the Sir John Swire Senior Research Fellow in the International Relations of East Asia at Oxford. Her other books include: (with Saadia Pekkanen and John Ravenhill, eds.) The Oxford Handbook of the International Relations of Asia (Oxford, 2014); (with Andrew Walter) China, the United States and Global Order (Cambridge, 2011); Rights Beyond Borders: The Global Community and the Struggle over Human Rights in China (Oxford, 2000).


Courtney Fung is Associate Professor of International Relations in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at the University of Hong Kong. She is concurrently Associate in Research at the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies, Harvard University and also Associate Fellow in the Asia-Pacific Programme at Chatham House. Her research focuses on how rising powers, like China and India, address the norms and provisions for a global security order. Dr. Fung has a PhD in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, where she was awarded the Peter Ackerman Dissertation Prize for her doctoral thesis.

This event will NOT be recorded and is the fifth of the Women in Asia-Pacific Security Research Seminar Series 2020-21, jointly supported by the Graduate Research & Development Network for Asian Security (GRADNAS) and the ANU Gender Institute. This series showcases the cutting-edge academic research of women in the fields of Asia-Pacific security broadly-defined, and serves as an international platform for strengthening academic exchange, feedback, and mentorship.
